Advertising Signs

Advertising signs play a major role in promoting business and community events within the Darebin. Outdoor Advertising Policies and Guidelines have been established to ensure correct procedure is followed.  Advertising signs erected on Council land without Council permission will be impounded.

Types of Advertising Signs 

Applications are required for all advertising signs erected within the City of Darebin. There are currently three categories of Advertising signs:

Permits are required before placing skip bins, shipping containers or machinery on public roads or land.

Skip Bins

Skip Bin companies wishing to place skip bins (mini skips) on public land within Darebin must first obtain a permit.

Please ensure you read through the 2017/2018 Bulk Rubbish Containers - Guidelines for Suppliers. Failing to obtain a permit prior proceeding with the work or complying with council guidelines will incur penalties and fines.

How to Apply

  1. Complete the Skip Bin Placement Notification and Contract Form
  2. Lodge your application

  3. On approval you will receive an invoice.

 

Shipping Containers

A permit is required to place a shipping container on public land within Darebin. Applications must be lodged at least 4 days prior to the date of use.

The container must not be placed for longer than 12 hours on any public asset.

Containers cannot be placed:

  • On a Vic Roads declared main road
  • In a no stopping/clearing or other non-permitted areas
  • Within 30 metres of an intersection
  • Within 30 metres of a school
  • The placement of the container must not interfere with the normal traffic or pedestrian flow of the street.

Temporary Obstructions

A permit is required prior to the placement of machinery (e.g. scissor lift) on Council land and conditions adhered to. Applications must be lodged at least 4 days prior to the date of use.

The machinery must not be placed for any longer than 8 hours on any public asset.


Machinery cannot be placed:

  • On a Vic Roads declared main road
  • In a no stopping/clearing or other non-permitted areas
  • Within 30 metres of an intersection
  • Within 30 metres of a school
  • The placement of the machinery must not interfere with the normal traffic or pedestrian flow of the street.

Mobile or Itinerant traders are mobile food vans, ice cream vendors, mobile flower sellers etc.

Mobile Traders

Traders (e.g. mobile food vans, ice cream vendors, mobile flower sellers) must obtain an Mobile Vendor Permit from Council in order to sell goods or services.

Conditions do apply, for instance Public Liability Insurance must be obtained prior to trade.

Traders must not conduct business within a 500m radius of an established business (business trading from a building) whose prime product is of a similar nature. Traders must comply with all health and traffic regulations.

Permit Fees (per year): Itinerant Traders $1,812.00 Permit period is 1 July to 30 June each year.

A Planning Permit may be required to if you intend to sell and/or consume liquor from your site or premises.

If you or your organization intends to supply liquor in Victoria you must apply for a Liquor Licence. A Planning Permit may be required to sell and/or consume liquor from the site.

Step 1:

You need to speak to the Liquor Licensing Victoria (1300 182 457) to obtain advice on what sort of Liquor Licence you require.

Step 2:

When you know the type of Liquor Licence you require you need to contact us to check if a Planning Permit is required.

Charities are required to obtain permission from Council prior to conducting any fundraising activities.

Charity Fundraising

 

Fundraising permits allow charities to collect pledge donations and funds within the City of Darebin.

 

Permits are issued by the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association. Pledge permits are only offered to charities registered with the PFRA.

 Intersection collections

 

Charities are required to obtain permission from Council prior to conducting any intersection collections.

Organisations are limited to 50 intersections per year within Victoria and collections can only be conducted at intersections where neither intersecting road is above 60 kms per hr. 
Intersections on the border of more than one council must have approval from all councils.

Once permission has been granted, the charity will be supplied with a 'Letter of No Objection' from Council which must be submitted with the application to the Victorian Police before they can conduct a collection.
