Darebin Arts Speakeasy presents FOMO: The Fear of Missing Out
Friday, March 28, 2014
to Sunday, April 13, 2014
A Melbourne International Comedy Festival event presented by Darebin Arts Speakeasy.

One woman, ten characters and a radio studio, Zoe McDonald has the FOMO, aka the fear of missing out!

A member of Present Tense, the dynamic theatre making ensemble behind Chants des Catacombes and Margaret Fulton: Queen of the Dessert, McDonald portrays a parade of radio talkback callers, guests and a one-time famous announcer.

'McDonald embodies each of these different personalities with such precise and perfect physicality
and mannerism that she can evoke uproarious laughter with just the tilt of her head. Her energy seems truly boundless as she swaps between the large cast non-stop for the entire show!' TheatrePress

After a swag of rave reviews and an award for her Melbourne Fringe debut, FOMO returns to Melbourne fresh from a stellar season at the Adelaide Fringe, under the direction of Present Tense artistic directors Bryce Ives and Nathan Gilkes

'FOMO is a deeply engaging, rewarding and unbelievably hilarious show' Aussie Theatre.

A Tale of Two Empires: Bradley & Donnett
Tuesday, April 15, 2014
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Forgotten history is lost history. Two of Darebin’s most industrious families, the Bradleys and the Donnets, are now all but forgotten.

At this special Heritage Week event, Paul Michell will explore the contributions and connections made by these families within the Northcote and Preston municipalities. Some of their most noteworthy achievements include work on the Northcote Town Hall, service in local government, involvement with the Northcote and Preston Baths and medal winning Olympic performances.

Paul Michell is known to many for his years of local history research within Darebin. This exciting talk promises to reveal much of two forgotten families and their connection with Darebin’s history.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival show at La Trobe University
Tuesday, April 29, 2014
7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Melbourne International Comedy Festival at La Trobe University for one-night only public show!
La Trobe University’s Melbourne campus is delighted to host a one-night only Melbourne International Comedy Festival show, part of the Festival’s annual roadshow, on Tuesday evening, April 29. Tickets ($35) are now on sale at www.latrobe.edu.au/comedy-festival. Be quick to book – tickets are selling fast!

This initiative is part of La Trobe’s commitment to activate the campus, and blur the boundaries between the University and our neighbours. La Trobe is a major part of Melbourne’s North, and we look forward to being able to initiate more great activities in the future.

The public show will feature a raft of the Festival’s superstars including local heroes, international stars as well as the hottest newcomer discoveries of the Festival.

To be held in La Trobe’s 460 seat Agora Theatre, ticket holders will be offered free parking on campus for the event in Car Parks 1&2. There will also be free pre-show entertainment in the Agora, as well as hawker style food and beverages for sale from 6.00pm.

Profits raised from the ticketed event will go towards La Trobe University’s research in building healthy communities.

With a rich history in theatre and performance, La Trobe University is thrilled to continue this tradition by hosting the MICF tour performance. La Trobe has a special link with the Festival, with the Student Union’s own Sonia Di Iorio featuring in this year’s Festival with her own show, ‘Don’t Kiss the Weird Girl’.

Don’t miss out on this very special event at La Trobe University, and be prepared for our cast of comic travellers to have you belly-laughing!
