Art4All Art Show
Friday, September 12, 2014
to Sunday, September 14, 2014

6:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Art4All is a fabulous weekend of art, entertainment and creativity for the whole family.

Fairfield Primary School celebrates Australian artists – both big and small – at its 17th annual art show. Over 100 artists from across Victoria will exhibit and share their work in a unique event that combines fine art with family fun.

This year the ‘big’ includes Geoffrey Ricardo and his life-sized elephant. If you missed it on the beach at Lorne over summer, you will be able to see it in the playground at Fairfield Primary School from 12-14 September.

Other feature artists this year include: Stephen Armstrong, Elizabeth Barnett, Erin Greer, Robert Hague, Declan Hallinan, Martin King, Damon Kowarsky, Gus Leunig, Jim Pavlidis and Tai Snaith.

These collectable artists will share the exhibition space with close to 90 other artists. Across the weekend, Art4All is a chance to view and buy interesting and affordable art.

Art4All Family Day
Sunday, September 14, 2014
10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Art4All Family Day is a day of creative delight, where children can immerse themselves in five hours of guided building, making, painting, modelling, drawing and designing. Activities pitched at primary school children will change on the hour and include:

– Writing workshops with Margaret Clark – Australia’s most prolific children’s author
– Dancing workshops with Sela from the Victorian College of the Arts
– Comic book and clay animation workshops
– Lego Graffiti – build your name on a huge Lego graffiti wall from Inside The Brick
– Listening to classical musicians and painting the experience – Paint What You Hear
– Making wallets with duct tape
– Beading workshops
– Building rocket ships
– Learning Star Wars origami … and so much more!

At 11am Born in a Taxi is presenting their interactive family show, Cirque Disarray.

In addition, inspired by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama’s interactive children’s project, Fairfield Primary School is creating its very own ‘obliteration installation’. Over the weekend everyone who attends Art4All is invited to add coloured dots to Vincent Van Gogh’s white ‘bedroom’.
For the first time, a formal children’s gallery will be part of Art4All. The gallery will showcase work from each student in the school. The works have been produced with the guidance of artist Stephen Armstrong and the influence and inspiration of Vincent Van Gogh.
There will also be a tasty selection of hot and cold food on the day as well as an extensive range of hand made goods at the Gallery Shop.

to Sunday, September 28, 2014
17 - 28 September
9.30pm (Sundays 8.30pm)
Duration 60 minutes no interval

Hot off a country-wide tour of last year’s controversial, sold out Melbourne Fringe show Unsex Me, creator/performer Mark Wilson attacks Shakespeare’s Richard II – a God-king who realizes he’s human – and comes out with a treasonous consanguinity of celebrity, corruption and religious self-love. Whoever your political Gods are – Richard is the acknowledgement that they are human, corruptible and compromised.

‘Completely wtf’ – Timeout

‘Profound, sad, and even strangely beautiful… with a touch of the Patrick White who wrote The Twyborne Affair’ – Daily Review/Crikey

The Harbinger
Thursday, September 25, 2014
to Friday, September 26, 2014
The Harbinger, presented by Darebin Arts’ Loud Mouth

A Critical Stages and Dead Puppet Society Production

An old man hides away in a dusty old bookshop, forgotten and alone with only a handful of
beautiful memories as comfort. Gone are the days of magnificent apple orchards, rowboats on crystal streams and picnics under the moon. Gone is the woman he loves.
Throughout the long years of his life, the old man has watched the magic in the world disappear, his crowded city sink into misery, and his nightmares come to life and stalk the streets. Haunted by painful memories of a much happier time and place, he toils away long days to forget. But when a young girl arrives, desperate for protection, the old man is forced to relive the pain and pleasures of his own past and uncovers a chance to change the city forever…

This enchanting fairytale by Queensland’s inimitable Dead Puppet Society melds live performance, puppetry, animation and stage trickery to create a richly magical world where the lines between reality and make-believe fall away.

Written and directed by David Morton (The Timely Death of Victor Blott) and Matthew Ryan (boy girl wall), The Harbinger will clear your mind and bring to life your most fantastical dreams.

Potential
Tuesday, September 30, 2014
to Sunday, October 05, 2014
30 September to 5 October
7.30pm (Sundays 6.30pm)
Duration 60 Minutes no interval

Piercing symbolism and raw physical states come together for a dance to the heart, from the heart, and about the heart. Stirred by the catch phrase Open Your Heart, the four performers venture into the depths of our most loveable organ. What if our hearts were more than physical pumps? Through its kinaesthetic language, POTENTIAL looks at our material world of flesh, bone and blood, and its relationship to the immaterial world of thoughts, emotions and energetic exchange. Expect group hugs, hot water bottles, karma sutra-esque poses and plenty of heartfelt moves.

Choreographed and Performed by: Janine Proost

Performed by: Natalie Abbott, Rebecca Jensen and Amelia McQueen

Lighting designer: Matt Adey

30 September to 5 October
9pm (Sundays 8pm)
Duration 60 minutes no interval

Written and Directed by: Marcel Dorney

Produced by: Elbow Room

A blistering punk-rock retelling of the Bjelke-Petersen era, Prehistoric immerses the audience in the Brisbane of the late 1970s. Direct from the Brisbane Festival, and produced by award-winning Melbourne company Elbow Room, it follows four young people as they discover the thrills – and the hard lessons – of self-expression under a corrupt and intolerant regime. Featuring some of Brisbane’s best performers, and original music by Marcel Dorney and Steve Toulmin performed live by the cast, Prehistoric is a tribute to those that refuse to stay quiet.
