Youth Voice

Get involved in your local community and Council’s decision-making processes.

The Young Citizens Jury gives young people a voice on issues and a platform to contribute to Council’s decision-making process.

The Young Citizens Jury is a group of 20 people passionate about making change in their community. They meet every month to discuss and debate current issues that are important to young people living in Darebin. They also identify and action relevant projects to address these issues.

Membership is through an expression of interest for young people aged 15-24.  Members receive training in leadership and advocacy skills. Applications for 2019/20 are now closed.

If you have an issue or topic you wish the Jury to discuss or address, please contact them via the contacts below.

We want the City of Darebin to be a place where young people feel safe and free to be themselves.

Council launched its new Youth Services Strategy in 2019. We want the City of Darebin to be a place where young people feel safe and free to be themselves and this Strategy will help guide Council in providing a community for them to do so.

Council consulted with more than 1000 young people who told us mental health, finding and keeping a job, drugs and alcohol, equity and discrimination and climate change are important issues for them. This has been reflected in the Strategy.
