| Do I need a permit to keep a sign or furniture on the footpath? | | Traders require a permit to display goods or trade on the footpath, to ensure pedestrians can safely pass along the footpath.
If you require advertising signs, tables, chairs and cafe screens on the footpath you must have a permit issued by Council.

| Where do I apply to register my take away food business under the Food Act? | | Under the Food Act 1984, any premises wishing to sell any food, which may include drinks or confectionery, either prepared, packaged or stored and sold for human consumption, must be registered with the Local Council.
The Council’s role in regard to registration is to monitor and provide guidance to food businesses to comply with the Food Act 1984 and relevant standards. | What sort of food standards do the Health Officers check for? | | Health Officers routinely visit premises registered under the Food Act, such as, hotels, restaurants, take-away food shops, stalls and food caravans to ensure that they comply with all relevant standards and that food offered for sale meets the consumer’s expectations.
This is to ensure the food is: wholesome free from contamination unadulterated safe

| How do I register my business under the Health Act? | | Hairdressing, beauty parlour, ear piercing, acupuncture and tattooist establishments are required to be registered under the Health Act 1958. The Health Officer’s role is to ensure that operators comply with correct hygiene, disinfection and sterilisation techniques, and that premises are clean.
Motels, hotels, caravan parks, camping and all accommodation facilities are also required to be registered under the Health Act 1958. The Health Officer’s role is to ensure that they are maintained to a reasonable standard and are kept in a clean and hygienic condition.

| What type of tobacco advertising is allowed? | | Strict legislation regulatates the sale and display of tobacco on retail and food premises.
Tobacco advertising such as flags, posters, stickers or backlit signs within retail outlets is prohibited. Tobacco products can only be displayed at the point of sale.
A quit smoking or health warning sign must be displayed at the point of sale or at the entrance of the premises.

| Do I need a permit to sell goods or services from a mobile van? | | Street Traders (e.g. mobile food vans, ice cream vendors, mobile flower sellers) wishing to sell goods or services must obtain permission from Council and may also require a permit from the Police.
