| Darebin City Council General Election 2008 | | A General Election of Councillors for Darebin City Council was held in November 2008.
The election was conducted by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) on behalf of the Council. The results of the election are published on the Victorian Electoral Commission Website.
The nine Councillors elected will serve a four year term of office. The next general election is scheduled for November 2012.
Electoral Structure
The City of Darebin is subdivided into three wards each represented by three Councillors.

Compulsory Voting
Voting at the general election was compulsory for Darebin residents on the State Electoral Roll as at 3 October 2008. Residents who failed to vote without an adequate reason may be fined. Only non-resident voters and voters aged 70 years or over are not obliged to vote at Council elections.
The Victorian Electoral Commission has forwarded notices to people who were required, but failed to vote at the election.
