| MEDIA RELEASE, 28 October 2009
Darebin youth will benefit from a new activity and support centre, the Northland Youth Centre, which officially opens at Preston’s Northland Shopping Centre on 18 November 2009.
“Free Internet access, radio broadcasting facilities, video game consoles, jewellery making, homework assistance and youth support are just some of the activities and services that will be available for 12-25 year olds at the new Northland Youth Centre,” said Acting Mayor, Cr Tim Laurence.
“Many youth go to Northland to meet friends, shop and hang out so it makes sense to provide the facility where young people congregate,” said Cr Laurence.
“The Centre is located in an easily accessible location on the west side of Northland Shopping Centre, near the bus stops.”
“We encourage young people to pursue their interests and talents through the new Centre, which is bigger and better equipped than the previous, temporary centre,” said Cazaly Ward Councillor, Vince Fontana.
“There are a range of services provided by the Centre which include local agencies who partner with Council to deliver a one-stop shop approach. These include employment assistance and education programs,” said Cr Fontana.
The new Northland Youth Centre is located at Shop J63a, Northland and is open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
Support services are offered during ‘drop-in’ times of 3.30pm to 6.30pm, Wednesday to Friday.
