Home>Darebin offers resident rebates for GreenPower
| MEDIA RELEASE, 4 November 2009
Darebin Council has negotiated special GreenPower resident rebates with Origin under the Community Power program.
Cr Tim Laurence, Acting Mayor of Darebin, said GreenPower was one of the simplest ways that people could significantly reduce their household’s greenhouse emissions.
“More than half a million customers across Australia are now signed up to GreenPower through Origin alone, and the Community Power program will help residents minimise the cost of reducing their home’s environmental impact,” said Cr Laurence.
“By choosing GreenPower for three years, residents are eligible for rebates of $300 on their electricity bills.”
“GreenPower options include 25%, 50% and 100% of total household energy usage, providing an option for all household budgets.” When a household chooses a Community Power Energy Plan, electricity from renewable sources such as wind and solar is supplied into the electricity grid to match that household’s electricity consumption.
Origin also offers households the option to offset greenhouse gas emissions generated by their natural gas consumption through Origin Green Gas.
“Community Power is a program led by Darebin City Council in partnership with Whitehorse and Moreland City Councils and the Moreland Energy Foundation, which aims to reduce community greenhouse gas emissions by increasing the uptake of GreenPower and promoting energy conservation in our community,” Cr Laurence said.
For more information on how to cut your household’s greenhouse emissions or to sign up for the Community Power program call 8470 8220 or go to Origin Energy.
