Children's Services - Frequently Asked Questions

How do I obtain an immunisation certificate for school entry for my child?

Before enrolling your child for primary school, parents must ensure their child has received all the required immunisations. If the child has, he/she will be issued with a certificate that can be used to enrol your child at school.

You can contact Immunisation Services on (03) 8470 8562 for further explanation.

Should I go ahead with my child’s immunisations if he/she is unwell?

A child with a minor illness (with a temperature below 38.5ºC) may be safely immunised. Infants and children with minor coughs and colds without fever, or those receiving antibiotics in the recovery phase of an acute illness can be immunised safely and effectively.

In a child with a major illness or high fever, immunisation should be postponed until the child is well. If immunisations were carried out during such an illness, the fever might be confused with vaccine side effects and might also increase the discomfort of the child.

When and where is the next council immunisation session?

Immunisation sessions for the current year are listed on Immunisation Services.

Immunisation schedules can also be obtained by phoning Council on (03) 8470 8888, or visiting a Darebin Customer Services Centre or Maternal and Child Health Centre within Darebin.

What if my records are in another language?

The City of Darebin offers a free translation service for parents wishing to have their child’s records translated into English. Parents need to provide a copy of the child’s records and once translated Immunisation Service can determine whether the child requires any further immunisations.

If necessary parents can talk to a Darebin Customer Service Officer in their language to arrange the service, please telephone Council on (03) 8470 8470.
