Darebin Australia Day Awards recognised the most outstanding local talent in the Darebin community,award winners are exceptional people committed to improving the wellbeing of our community

2013 Darebin Australia Day Award Winners

Citizen of the Year – Rose Catalano

Rose was nominated for the work she has done in the community with cancer sufferers, after she herself suffered breast cancer. Rose started a ceramic art studio in Thornbury where she welcomed people to paint, relax and share their stories.

Young Citizen of the Year – Joint Winners Shaeley Henderson and Natalie Taylor

Shaeley was nominated for the volunteer work she has done as a committee member for FReeZA, running drug and alcohol free music events, with the Decibels Youth Music Studio, and through her role as crew member at the Reach Foundation supporting young people who face barriers.

Natalie was also nominated for her work with FReeZA and Decibels Youth Music Studio.

Community Group of the Year – PrYme Membership –Northcote Aquatic Centre

PrYme Membership located at Northcote Aquatic Centre encourages adults over the age of 50 to keep fit and healthy, and provides a space to meet and socialise in a happy and supporting environment. The group has over 590 members, and have raised over $30,000 for groups such as the Northern School for Autism in Preston.
