Economic and Employment Profile

Industrial building

Darebin is a well established northern Melbourne metropolitan municipality. The southern end, including the suburbs of Fairfield and Northcote, is just 10 minutes from Melbourne CBD, while the northern end is 20 minutes from Melbourne’s International Airport.

Darebin is well serviced by public transport, with two rail lines, tram lines and numerous bus routes. These transport services provide easy access to our amenities and education institutions and to those beyond the boundaries of Darebin such as RMIT University in the CBD and Bundoora.

The City has major north-south road linkages along St. George’s Road, High Street and Plenty Road and the main east-west link is along Bell Street. Darebin is adjacent to the Metropolitan Ring Road, Eastlink and Citylink, providing access to all ports, the City and western, eastern and south-eastern suburbs.

Council has developed an Economic and Employment Profile and Statistics, which includes a detailed analysis of the Darebin economy, industry sector and labour force.
