Darebin Businesses to Benefit from Census of Land Use

The City of Darebin has conducted a census of approximately 6,000 commercial and industrial properties within the City of Darebin, collecting information about the business and their premises. Analysis and reporting from the Census of Land Use and Employment (CLUE) is currently being undertaken and some overview reports will be available on Council's website later this year.

What information was collected?

Surveyors collected information about the premises and a range of economic and business activities including:
- Industry structure and type (ANZSIC code (2006 version) and number of establishments or business locations);
- Floor space type and use (office, retail, industrial, accommodation, entertainment, office vacancy rates, etc.);
- Employment type and status (full time, part time, casual, contractor, male and female);
- Building information (number of floors, gross floor area, letable area, etc.);
- Venue and capacity measures (café seats, education seats, child care spaces, rooms, off street car parking spaces, residential dwellings, student dwellings, student beds, theatre/ stadium seats, conference and meeting seats, gaming machines, etc.).

How will this benefit your Business?

CLUE is a unique and essential research tool designed specifically to assist in decision-making processes for both Council and businesses. The information collected in the Census will be the most comprehensive analysis of economic and land use activity and employment in the City of Darebin. It will provide a unique insight into the structure of the City’s economy and can provide diverse information (aggregated data) to existing and potential businesses such as:
- The number and location of competing or complementary businesses.
- The potential number of workers within a city area who may walk past a particular retail window.
- The concentration of students or city residents and their proximity to entertainment/recreation or retail facilities.
- The profile/character of a part of the city by street blocks, suburbs or customised areas.

What about the sensitive data collected?

Your privacy is protected. The information collected in this Census is completely confidential, so no results on individual businesses (i.e. names, number of employees, etc) will be disclosed (i.e. aggregated data only). All information will be retained within Council and will not be provided to any third party.

Any survey results will be aggregated information (e.g. in categories of industry type or suburb) and some reports, on the City's economy, will be made available on our website.
