International Students in Darebin

Darebin is one of the most culturally, religious and linguistically diverse cities in Victoria and home to a vibrant community made up of people from all sorts of age groups, backgrounds, interests and aspirations.

Darebin has become home to a significant number of international students. Currently there are approximately 6,000 international students studying, working or living in Darebin. The majority of these students come from China, India, South Korea, Thailand and Brazil. Most students are between 18-25 years and can be single, couples and couples with children.

Today education and obtaining a qualification has become much more ‘global’ and many more students are studying overseas to obtain their qualification/s. Studying in Australia has become a growing international student ‘industry’ and international students come to study for a range of qualifications including hospitality, community services, nurses, engineers and doctors.

Part of Our Darebin Community

International students contribute to the social, cultural and economic prosperity of Darebin as a community.

The Darebin community and proximity to universities and colleges are factors that attract international students to Darebin. International students also work in a number of businesses located in Darebin and many are involved in volunteering and contributing to the community.

Common Issues faced by International Students
