Darebin Intercultural Centre

The Darebin Intercultural Centre is based at the Old Preston Courthouse at 59a Roseberry Ave, on the Corner of Kelvin Grove, Preston.

The Centre now has a fantastic Community Kitchen space, newly carpeted meeting rooms, space for art exhibitions and soon to be installed conference style facilities including, Wi-Fi, data projectors and screens.

What's On at the Intercultural Centre?

The Centre hosts a number of events each month, from cooking classes to workshops, to forums on interesting topics and introductory seminars on the diversity within the Darebin Community.

Use of the Intercultural Centre

  • The Darebin Intercultural Centre is not an ordinary community centre for general community activities.
  • The Centre facilities are not available for activities or groups that are seeking to meet on regular basis for general activities that do not involve inter-cultural mixing.
  • The Centre is not just a Venue for Hire.
  • The majority of the activities at the Centre are organized, sourced and managed by the Darebin City Council to ensure the Centre’s objectives are progressed and achieved.
  • Meeting Rooms & Facilities:


    Meeting rooms, one of which (Pearl Room) is fitted with conference style facilities including lectern with microphone, projector, TV and DVD

  • Electronic white board, WiFi internet connection.
  • 80 Chairs
  • 12 flip conference tables
  • Community Kitchen (this can be booked for cooking classes and food demonstrations)
  • Exhibition space
  • Lift access, recharge point, access toilets and baby change facility
  • Two Hot desk office spaces
  • Examples of suitable activities for the Centre:

  • Delivery of seminars, debates, Q&A sessions and conferences on topical issues related to inter-culturalism
  • Film nights focusing on relevant issues and which aim to increase cross-cultural understanding and knowledge
  • Diversity training, aimed at local service providers in Darebin and customised to workers in public, private, commercial and non government sectors
  • English conversation classes with locals, which aim at engaging members of the local community to interact with newly arrived residents to exchange information and help newly arrived with their English comprehension
  • Arts programs, such as exhibitions, performances, writers festivals, and community theatre with intercultural themes.

    The Darebin Intercultural Centre is available for hire within the following times:
    9.00am - 10.00pm Sunday to Thursday
    9.00am - 11.00pm Friday and Saturday
