Meredith Lewis on behalf of Darebin Overseas Students Association (DOSA).
DOSA will implement a project that will encourage Darebin’s international students to interact with long-established families in our municipality in a cultural exchange aiming to ease the culture shock that many of the students feel when they first arrive in Australia.

Award Objectives
1. To provide an incentive to Darebin’s volunteers and community organisations to develop and implement innovative community projects that stimulates community engagement and interaction in their neighbourhoods.
2. To recognise those volunteers and community organisations within Darebin area that are passionate and committed to make a difference to their local community.
3. To generate street and neighbourhood based activities that alleviate social isolation, break down barriers and improve community connectedness.
Awards Ceremony 25th March 2012
Awards Ceremony will be held on Neighbour Day Australia which has a theme of ‘Celebrating Communities’
Nomination period opens 1 November 2011 and closes on 30 January 2012
Entries will be asessed 1 - 28 February 2012.
Eligibility criteria
Nominations must be for ideas and projects happening in Darebin and of benefit to people who live, work, study or visit Darebin. Nominations can be from any individuals or organisations
Application Criteria
Criteria 1 – Alleviates social isolation
Criteria 2 – Supports marginalized residents
Criteria 3 – Makes Darebin a more inclusive community
Criteria 4 – Actively works to improve perceptions of safety
Criteria 5 – Quality of Project management and execution plan of existing/proposed initiative
Award Winners
Winners will receive up to $5000 towards project implementation
Help and support from Council Staff in terms of assistance in the management, marketing and promotion of the proposed initiative.
Promotion and publicity in local paper and other Darebin media.

The selection criteria can either be submitted on the provided form in writing or in another medium such as on a video. Hard copy application forms are also available at all Darebin Council Customer Service offices.
You may also attach materials to support your nomination ( e.g: media articles, photos, videos, publications etc..) Nominations must be delivered to a Darebin City Council’s Customer Service Offices or post to:
