Darebin City Council has established a Sexuality, Sex and gender Diversity Advisory Committee (formerly Same Sex Attracted and Gender Diverse Advisory Committee). The establishment of the new Committee follows recommendations made in a public forum to celebrate International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) in May 2011. It also reflects a commitment by Darebin Council to strengthen the work that it currently does around increased inclusiveness of all in Darebin, regardless of sexuality, sex or gender..
Aims:
To realise and develop equality for people in Darebin who identify as gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender, intersex or queer (GLBTIQ). The Committee meets quarterly to advise Council on issues and barriers to equality affecting sexuality and sex and gender diverse communities. Membership is through an expression of interest process.
Cr Trent McCarthy and Cr Angela Villella co-chair the Committee.
Darebin Sexuality, Sex and Gender Diversity Action Plan 2012-2015
Developed with the support of the Sexuality, Sex and Gender Diversity Advisory Committee, following engagement with the community throughout 2012, notably through a community forum for IDAHO, Darebin Sexuality, Sex and Gender Diversity Action Plan 2012-2015 was endorsed on 6 August 2012. The Action Plan focuses on greater inclusiveness in Council internally as an organisation, in Council services and in the Darebin community and supports
Council's work towards equality for our gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer residents.
