| Darebin Parklands Masterplan | | Darebin Creek Management Committee has prepared a new Masterplan for Darebin Parklands in consultation with stakeholders and the community over an 18 month period. The Masterplan will guide design, development and management of the parklands for the next 20 years. The City of Darebin has endorsed the Masterplan which is expected to deliver 1.4 million dollars worth of improvements to the park. These improvements will include a new Environmental Centre, picnic facility and a new eco-friendly toilet facility. The Masterplan also makes recommendations for maintenance and management of the park including investment in revegetation, weed eradication and changes to dog off-lead areas. Council will begin implementing the Masterplan in the 2008/09 financial year and will be providing information to the community over the coming months. The City of Darebin has welcomed community engagement in the planning of the Masterplan and encourages the community to continue their involvement with this valuable community park.

| History | | Darebin Parklands has a long rich history only some of which is known. There are hidden treasures within the park including remnant orchards and crops that were grown on the fringe of a growing city during the mid-1800s. A dairy farm, vineyard, quarry and tip site were all at times active industries within the bounds of the park, and clues of this can still be found if one knows where to look.
The last 30 years of management has seen a concerted effort by the local community and councils to rehabilitate the natural environment while protecting historic elements of past land uses. | |
