 Where do I complain about food that has made me sick?

Where do I complain about food that has made me sick?
All food outlets including hotels, restaurants, takeaway food shops and market street stalls are regularly visited by Health Officers to check on food storage, temperature control, food protection, cleanliness, personal hygiene of staff and maintenance of the premises.

If you have any concerns regarding issues such as food poisoning, foreign objects found in food, food labelling queries or observe poor food handling practices you should contact Council on (03) 8470 8888.

Where can I complain about pollution?
To complain about odour, air emissions, noise, and water pollution you can call Council on (03) 8470 8888 to investigate your concerns.

Council may need to refer your complaint to the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) to investigate or you may wish to call the EPA on (03) 9695 7777 to lodge a complaint.

I have a problem with pests in my home where can I get some information?
Environmental Health Services provides information and advice on Pest Control. Health Officers also investigate complaints of pest infestations.

Reports of pest activity can only be investigated where there is a potential source for pests to be attracted and not in circumstances where they are part of the natural environment.

My child has head lice what shall I do?
Environmental Health Services can provide advice and head lice inspections on request.

Head lice combs can be purchased from all Darebin Customer Service Centres. Head lice lotion is not available to purchase from Darebin Council, but can easily be purchased from any local Chemist.

I am a diabetic and need a container for my needles where do I go?
Council’s aim is to reduce the incidence of inappropriately disposed syringes within the municipality. You can collect a container from all Darebin Customer Service Centres.

When the container is full, please return it to the Customer Service Centre for correct disposal by Council.

I became ill after swimming at a public pool. Are these pools inspected?
Council routinely assess all public swimming and spa pools within the municipality for compliance with the relevant regulations and standards. Council ensures that operators are aware of the relevant standards so that water quality is maintained to safe levels.

On-site testing is conducted by Health Officers at least quarterly and in response to a customer complaint or request, or if the centre is implicated in an infectious disease outbreak.

What are the laws regarding smoking?
Council aims to reduce the harmful effects of tobacco smoking through:

 Enforcing smoke free dining
 Banning smoking in designated areas of licensed premises and shopping centres
 Regulating sales to minors
 Regulating display and advertising of tobacco products
 Banning illegal tobacco products
 Applying penalties for sales to minors.
 

Council officers conduct regular education visits to tobacco retailers, eating establishments, licensed premises and gaming venues in regards to administering and enforcing requirements under the Tobacco Act.

How do I Report Graffiti to Council?
Either contact the Customer Service Centre on 8470 8888 or visit the Graffiti page on this website and complete the online Report Graffiti form.
 
How Do I Report a Hoon Driver?
If this type of behaviour is occurring now, phone the Police (000) and state what is happening and where.

You can also contact the Council Customer Service on 8470 8888 to be sent a hard copy form in the mail or you can fill out the online form on the Hoon Driving page on this website.
