| Darebin City Council is committed to improving community safety. Council runs a variety of programs each year that promote safety, and bring the community together in an effort to enhance perceptions of safety for people who live, work and visit Darebin.

| Community Safety Issues | | Improving community safety involves addressing issues such as:
- Anti-social behaviour
- Trip hazards in roads or footpaths
- Poor amenity of buildings and facilities
- Poor lighting and signage
- Unwanted litter and graffiti
- Educating the community about personal safety and community safety
- Fear of crime
- Encouraging residents to get involved in their community and claim ownership over public space, in an effort to make areas feel safe
When people feel unsafe in their environment, this often leads to a lack of community participation, and some people may become vulnerable to crime as a result. Council seeks to encourage safety and community interaction to enhance wellbeing. | |
