| MEDIA RELEASE, 4 March 2009
The City of Darebin will hold a community meeting on Thursday 19 March to discuss the Ministerial ‘call in’ by the Minister for Planning for the proposal to redevelop the Northcote Bowl.
In February the State Government announced changes to planning regulations to ‘call in’ major planning proposals for fast-tracking. The Government listed the Northcote Bowl proposal for 96 apartments as one of the first developments to be ‘called in’.
Darebin Mayor, Cr Diana Asmar, said the meeting would be informative and help people understand the various issues and voice their concerns.
“The meeting will be an opportunity for residents to learn more about the proposal, the ‘call in’, and what all this means,” Cr Asmar said.
“Darebin Council is opposed to the ‘call in’ as this planning application has not been ‘gridlocked’, as suggested by the State Government. This community meeting will be an opportunity for people to raise concerns that we can forward to the Minister for Planning.”
The meeting will be held at the Clyde Street Community Centre, 64 Clyde Street, Thornbury, on Thursday 19 March at 7.30pm.
The Mayor, Ward Councillors and Council staff will be in attendance.
