Rubbish

Darebin households are provided with a garbage bin for household rubbish. Rubbish in this bin goes to landfill. Material that can be reused, recycled or composted should not go in this bin.
Rubbish must be contained in bags or wrapped. You must bring your bin in on the same day it is emptied.

When Is My Bin Collected?

Household rubbish bins are collected weekly.

The day of collection depends on where you live. Visit the Rubbish Collection Days Map to find your collection day or search on your property address via the Interactive Map on DarebinGuide.

What Can I Put in my Rubbish Bin?

Plastic Bags

Plastics including plant pots and garden hoses

General rubbish

Nappies (wrapped)

Ceramics, pyrex, light globes, mirrors, broken glass (wrapped)

Meat and bones

Polystyrene

Animal waste and kitty litter

Plastic wrap and foam

Christmas and Public Holidays

Bins will not be collected on Good Friday, Christmas and New Year's Day but will be collected the following day. All other bin collection days in the week of a public holiday will also be affected. If your bin day is Tuesday, it will be delayed until Wednesday, Wednesday will be delayed until Thursday, and so forth for the rest of the week.

To Ensure Your Bin is Emptied

Place it on the nature strip the night before your collection day

Provide a 1 metre clearance around the bin, where possible

Do not overfill your bin. The lid should close.

Make sure that the bin weighs less than 30kg

Your Bin Will Not Be Collected If

It is too close to obstacles such as trees, poles, other bins or parked cars

If it is overfilled or has anything on top of or leaning against it

If it is on uneven ground, the road or in a driveway

Littering and Dumping Rubbish

Littering or rubbish dumping in Darebin should be reported.
