International Touring Exhibition

MEDIA RELEASE, 10 March 2010

The premiere Australian showing of international touring exhibition, Transforming the Human Spirit, opens at Darebin Council on 10 March 2010 where it will be on exhibition until 22 March before continuing its tour of local councils across Australia.

Transforming the Human Spirit is an exhibition by Soka Gakkai International, a UN- accredited, worldwide lay Buddhist association that promotes peace, culture and education across the globe.

“We are proud to be the first in Australia to host this international exhibition which aims to promote a culture of peace through photography and dialogue,” said Darebin Councillor, Stanley Chiang.

“This exhibition forces us to think about the struggle millions across the globe face everyday, whether it is war, starvation, disease or other insecurity,” said Cr Chiang.

“Hopefully it will make those who see it take action, in whatever way they can, to help improve life for others.”

The exhibition is part of the Mayors for Peace program with Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA) and is part of International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN).

Following Darebin, the exhibition will travel to Macedon Ranges where it will open on 25 March 2010.
