How to Save Energy
  • Install insulation and seal all draughts and unnecessary vents
  • Wear warm clothes and heat only those areas you need
  • Set your heater thermostat between 18 to 21 degrees
  • Avoid air-conditioning - use a fan instead
  • Install a 3 star or higher showerhead and take shorter showers
  • Consider installing a solar hot water system
  • Choose energy efficient appliances when shopping
  • Wash clothes in cold water
  • Only wash clothes and dishes when you have a full load
  • Use the washing line, not the clothes dryer
  • Switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs
  • Avoid energy intensive halogen downlights
  • Turn off appliances at the wall

    Free Light Globe Exchange
    Residents of Darebin are now eligible to receive free high quality, energy-saving light bulbs and water-saving showerheads and have them installed at no cost as part of the ‘Live Green with LESS’ project.

    FREE energy and water saving assessments and retrofits to reduce household energy and water bills, improve comfort and reduce the impact on the environment for current Centrelink Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card holders living in Northcote, Westgarth, Thornbury, Fairfield or Alphington.
