INSCRIBE

The INSCRIBE newspaper is a community journal of writing by writers who live, work or study in the City of Darebin.

Editorial team members are volunteers from Darebin’s writing community working in partnership with students from the NMIT Bachelor of Writing and Publishing.

Copies of the newspaper are published and distributed around Darebin in cafes, libraries and other community hubs.

Call For Submissions - INSCRIBE Issue 6

What We Are Looking For

General Submissions

  • Fiction (800 words or less)

  • Poetry

  • MS Extracts (800 words or less)

  • Essays (800 words or less)

  • Writing News (800 words or less)

  • Cartoons

  • Illustrations

  • Longer Pieces (2800-3000 word maximum)

  • Novel Extracts

  • Feature Articles and Essays (must be writing-related)

  • Illustrations and Photos to accompany articles

  • Cover Image

    • SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • We are currently only accepting manuscript submissions in English or with an English translation attached.

  • Non-discriminatory language/imagery is mandatory.

  • Defamatory content will not be accepted

  • Words considered a proprietary term or trade mark must use the symbol ® or TM.

  • The author/artist must have full copyright of the manuscript/image submitted.

  • Submissions must be in the correct format

  • Submissions without a complete Submission Form will not be accepted.

    • Editorial Process

  • All submissions are subject to editing.

  • Submissions are subject to full peer review by members of the INSCRIBE Editorial Team. Submission Forms are viewed by the Editorial Director. If the submission/s meets the terms and conditions the (unidentifiable) manuscript/image is sent to the Editorial Team for review. After receiving recommendations from the Editorial Team the Editorial Director determines whether the manuscript/image is accepted, sent for revision or rejected. The Editorial Director reserves the right to vary these processes.

  • If your submission is an unrevised manuscript extract please note that substantial editing may be required before it is approved for publishing.

  • Newspaper article titles and headlines are created by the Editorial Team.

    • Selection Notification

    Selected authors/artists will receive a notification from the Editorial Team once final copy has been approved.

    Author/Artist Copyright, Payment and Privacy

  • Authors/Artists will not be paid.

  • Submissions will not be returned.

  • All authors/artists selected for publishing will receive a hard copy of the publication.

  • The author/artist retains full copyright of their work.

  • Information collected for INSCRIBE will be made available to members of the INSCRIBE project committee and editorial team. Authors/artists may be contacted by any member of the editorial team regarding their submission
