Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre is open
Your newest state-of-the-art aquatic and recreation centre on the block has opened the doors to help you achieve your health and wellbeing goals.
Much awe and amazement was expressed about the stunning new facility at the Community Open Day on Sunday 12 November, with many pledging their support by signing up for memberships.
Some people said they came to the old centre as children or brought their own kids there and were amazed and delighted at what was on offer now.
As testimony to the spacious design, despite the centre being at its capacity in each booked out session, there was still plenty of room for everyone to join in on the excitement or sit back and relax on the sprawling lawns
With the needs of the community in mind, work began back in 2018 when a feasibility study was endorsed by Darebin Council to replace the old facility that was beyond repair. From there, the community was engaged including the Traditional Owners to gage support then influence the design by Warren and Mahoney Architects. KANE construction was awarded the contract in September 2021 who built the stunning new facility. In February this year, Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre achieved 6 Star Green Star Design Review rating which is the highest possible rating provided by Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and represents 'World Leadership' in environmentally sustainable building practices and currently NARC is on track to receive a 6 Star Green Star – Design and As-built rating.
The Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre can finally fulfill what it was designed to achieve and the whole community can now enjoy this breath-taking health and wellness hub.
You really need to visit to experience this special and inclusive asset that is waiting for you to dive right in.
