Get Active in Darebin Program - Spring 2022

Get Active in Darebin is a free community-based exercise program aimed at increasing the physical activity and wellbeing levels of Darebin residents, as well as engaging under-represented groups into physical activity.

The program offers a variety of active recreation sessions for fully vaccinated residents. All activities are free of charge, cater for people of all ages, abilities and fitness levels, and are facilitated by qualified and fully vaccinated instructors.

The program includes family friendly classes specifically designed for parents and children to enjoy exercise together.

No bookings required, simply turn up on the day with your own water, towels and mat and join in on the fun.

There are no classes on public holidays, and outdoor classes will be cancelled in the event of wet weather.

Numbers may be limited due to venue capacity, so first in approach will apply and instructors reserve the right to cap the session numbers accordingly.

Zumba is a dance fitness class that fuses International hypnotic musical rhythms and tantalizing moves to create a "fitness-party", a dynamic workout designed to be fun and easy to do. By integrating Zumba into everyday life individuals may achieve long term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exhilarating hour of caloric burning, heart racing, muscle pumping and body energizing movements. The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat.Bring: water bottle, towel.

Qigong

Qigong is an ancient Chinese health practice that aligns the breath and physical activity to promote mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. It includes aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Martial Arts, but its main emphasis is on preventing illness.

Yoga + Pilates for Seniors

This class focuses on balance, building bone density and increasing mobility in a fun, relaxed setting. There are options for everyone, Pilates is a great way to build strength, enhance flexibility and feel good in your body.

Please bring your own mat and a strap/scarf/theraband to stretch. Chairs will be available to help make this practice more accessible

What is pickleball?

It’s not tennis and it’s not badminton! Did you know that pickle ball is one of the world’s fastest growing team sports and is a combination of tennis, badminton and table tennis, played on a smaller sized court. A fun-filled and challenging social game – it’s a game for the young and the young at heart. Come and see what all the fuss is about!

Accessible Yoga + Pilates

Yoga is a practice for Everybody! In this class we work with movement and breath to enhance peace of mind.

This practice is mainly chair based but there will also be standing variations as options. The focus is on adapting yoga for diverse bodies and needs so you can practice in the way that feels right for you!

Carers and friends are also welcome to join.

Outdoor equipment

Looking to get active outdoors in our parks and build more strength, cardio and stamina? Why not try our outdoor gym equipment at a time that suits you.

Now available to a range of local Darebin parks including:

Walking and running

It's important to try to exercise for at least 30 minutes per day, so why not try walking around local Darebin Parks and streets. Get your free Heart Foundation Personal Walking Plan and get moving today.

Find a walking group near you, visit the Heart Foundation website for more information to search via suburb for your closest groups to join.

For those up for more of a jog or run, why not try parkrun. A free and social community event coordinated by volunteers where you can walk, jog or run 5 kilometers. parkrun is held each Saturday at CT Barling Reserve (Plenty Rd) in Reservoir from 8-9am. Find out more about parkfun and register.

Reduced gym membership
