Nature strips

There are things you can do to keep your nature strip looking great, and Darebin is here to help.

There are things you can do to keep your nature strip looking great, and we’re here to help.

Looking after your nature strip

You must mow the nature strip in front of your property. We also encourage you to water newly planted street trees while paying attention to any water restrictions.

Planting on your nature strip

You can’t plant your own street trees on your nature strip, as this is a Council function. But we can help you to replace plantings or even start a new street tree.

To ask us for a street tree, please call 8470 8888 or email darebinparks@darebin.vic.gov.au.

To find out if you can plant on your nature strip without a permit, check out our Nature Strip Planting Guidelines (PDF, 2.4MB) or contact us.

You then need to follow these steps:

  1. Complete a Nature Strip Planting Application Form (PDF, 3.2MB)
  2. Submit the form via email, post or in person at any Customer Service Centre.
