The Australian Services Union (ASU) has notified Darebin City Council and the other seven councils joined in multi-employer bargaining that they plan to take strike action on Tuesday 5 May. Some council services are affected by the ASU’s strike, including waste services and libraries. We will keep you informed as much as possible.

We are updating sections of the Darebin Governance Rules 2020. The changes relate to the lodgement times for Submissions, Public Questions and Petitions at a Council meeting. The updates we are proposing are small, but they will help us grant Council more time to consider input from the community prior to a Council meeting.
We’re asking for your feedback on the changes before updated Governance Rules 2020 go to a Council meeting for consideration in April 2026.
It’s important to note that we are only seeking feedback on the proposed amendments highlighted in sections 14, 15 and 16 of the Darebin Governance Rules 2020.
There will be new Model Governance Rules developed by Local Government Victoria that will apply to all Victorian Councils later in 2026, but we need to make some changes in the interim.
