Walking Strategy 2018–2028

Pedestrians crossing a road

A quality walking environment is critical to making Darebin a more liveable and sustainable city. The Darebin Walking Strategy 2018–2028 shows how we can kick-start a culture of walking in Darebin, making our city a safer, more inclusive and sustainable place to live.

The objective of the Walking Strategy is to set the foundation for future investment, which will provide the infrastructure, amenity and education to support and encourage walking as a safe and attractive mode of transport for all.

This objective will be achieved through the following three goals:

  1. Upgrade the walking network and enhance connectivity across the municipality.
  2. Improve community health, safety and equity of access by reducing barriers to walking.
  3. Increase the community’s awareness of walking opportunities and the benefits of walking.
