Work experience

Our work experience program provides meaningful, hands-on learning in agriculture and horticulture.

Programs are available for secondary, VET, VCAL, TAFE and university levels. Students with innovative ideas and a great sense of initiative are encouraged to apply.

Students will assist with animal care including feeding and cleaning out animal pens; assist guides with education programs and assist with general farm cleaning and grounds maintenance.

Secondary school, VCAL, VET and TAFE (under 18 years)

We offer a limited number of work experience placements per year to secondary, VET and VCAL students. Secondary placements run for one week. VCAL placements can run over the course of several weeks and will depend on availability.

Applications for the farm's 2024 work experience positions are now closed. Applications will reopen in 2025.

University and TAFE (18+ years old)

We also offer a limited number of placements each year for University and TAFE students. The duration of TAFE and university placements depend on the requirements of the course you are enrolled in.

To apply

  1. Apply for your Working with Children Check Card. Please note, it is now a requirement that all university and TAFE students that are 18+ years old hold a valid Working with Children Check card. This is a free check, for more information please go to the Working With Children Check website. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept work placement students without this card.
  2. Read Work experience guidelines for university and TAFE students
  3. Read Workplace hazards in working with animals
  4. Complete the TAFE and university students application form

If your application is successful, you will be contacted by our Education Team Leader to arrange a time for a short interview.

Special development schools

We welcome work experience applications from students of special development schools. For students who require a carer, please ensure the carer is available to attend the interview, and if successful, subsequent placement dates with the student.

Applications for the farm's 2024 work experience positions are now closed. Applications will reopen in 2025.
