Photography Mentorship Program

Three successful applicants will each receive three one-on-one mentorship sessions (90 minutes each) with a professional photographer.

These tailored workshops are designed to help participants develop their skills and strengthen community connections through photography.

The sessions are scheduled to take place on 6, 7, and 8 April, with final dates and times to be confirmed.

This initiative is part of the Good Access is Good Business initiative and focuses on providing practical work experience in photography for young people with disability.

Who can join?

You can join if you:

  • are 18–25 years old
  • are a young person with disability
  • live in Darebin (or go to school, work, or have a strong link here)
  • are interested in photography
  • can come to the mentorship sessions in April 2026.

Do I need to know lots about photography?

No. You don’t need to be an expert. You just need to like taking photos or want to learn.

What will I do?

  • Learn new photography skills.
  • Work with a mentor to develop my skills about photography.

Does it cost money?

No. The program is free.

Where is it?

In Darebin. We will tell you the exact place when you are accepted.

How much time does it take?

You need to come to the session that is 90 minutes long. 

Can I get support?

Yes. We will make sure a youth support officer be located at the session.

How do I apply?

Fill out the Expression of Interest (EOI) form. Tell us about yourself, why you like photography, and what you want to learn.

What happens after I apply?

We will read your form and let you know if you have a place in the mentorship.

I don’t have a formal diagnosis for my disability. Can I still apply?

Yes, you can.

My disability is invisible. Can I apply?

Does neurodiversity and/or complex mental health count as a disability?

Yes, neurodiversity and complex mental health are considered as disability.

What if I have accessibility needs?

We are committed to create accessible workshop. We will discuss access requirements with successful candidates and do our best to accommodate them.

What parts of Darebin will the mentorship take place in?

Three workshops are planned for Preston, Reservoir but it will be confirmed later.

Inclusive Youth Photography Mentorship Program Terms and Conditions

Darebin is delivering free upcoming Inclusive Youth Photography Mentorship Program (“the Program”) in April 2026. The program is a free, one-on-one learning opportunity for young people with disability who live, study, or work in Darebin. This program is designed with partnership between Access and Inclusion team and Youth Services in Darebin City Council. The Program aims to provide participants with practical experience in photography through shadow learning with a professional photographer.

1. General Information

  1. The organiser is Darebin City Council (“Darebin”) (ABN 75 815 980 522) of 274 Gower Street, Preston Victoria 3072.

  3. Information on how to apply is included in the terms and conditions. Submit the application is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
  4. If there is any inconsistency between these Terms and Conditions and anything else that refers to this program, these Terms and Conditions will prevail.
  5. Three applicants will be selected for the program that is planned to deliver in April 2026 in three local businesses’ locations.

2. Who Can Enter

To be eligible to apply, applicants must:

• Be aged between 18 and 25 years old at the time of application.

Live, study, or work in the City of Darebin.

• Identify as a person with disability.

• Be available to participate in the mentorship session in April 2026 (exact date and time to be confirmed). (Darebin City Council reserves the right to verify eligibility and to request supporting documentation where necessary).

3. About the program

• The program offers a free, one-on-one shadow learning experience with a professional photographer.

• Each mentorship session will take place at a local business location in Darebin.

• Each selected participant will take part in a half-day session designed to explore and learn about photography in a real-world professional setting.

• A total of three (3) successful applicants will be selected for the program.

• The Organiser will confirm the exact date, time, and location with selected participants prior to the mentorship.

4. How to Apply

The program application period will start on October 23rd 2025 and will finish on November 23rd 3025.

Interested candidates must:

1. Complete the official registration form in full.

2. Answer all application questions honestly and thoughtfully. (Only fully completed applications submitted by the stated deadline will be considered. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted unless an extension is requested before the closing date).

5. Selection Process

• Applications will be reviewed by the Darebin City Council based on eligibility and responses provided.

Three (3) successful applicants will be shortlisted and contacted directly by the Organiser.

6. Participation and Conduct

• Selected participants agree to engage respectfully and responsibly during the mentorship session as per Darebin City Council values.

• Participants may be required to sign a consent form for photographs or media use during the Program.

• If a participant is unable to attend, they must notify the Organiser as soon as possible. (If they are unavailable on the day, the session cannot be rescheduled)

7. Privacy and Data Use

• Information will be handled in accordance with the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 and council Privacy Policy.

• Applicant details will not be shared with third parties without consent.

8. Changes or Cancellations

The Organiser reserves the right to:

• Modify or cancel the Program if circumstances require (e.g., venue changes, public health advice, or other unforeseen events).

• Notify applicants of any changes as soon as practicable.

9. Acceptance of Terms and Conditions

By submitting the registration form, applicants confirm that they have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms and Conditions.
