How to submit your form

You can either:

  • Email your complete parking change form to transport@darebin.vic.gov.au.
  • Post the form to PO Box 91, Preston VIC 3072.
  • Deliver it in person to one of our customer service counters.

When we receive your request, we will allocate it to an officer and acknowledge within two days that we have received your request for a parking review.

Managing parking near shops

Restricting parking times near local shops means that on-street parking can be used by more people. If you are a trader, please use the same application form above and clearly note which shopping strip or activity centre you operate from.

Depending on the mix of nearby shops, parking limits ranging from 5 minutes to 2 hours may be applied. This approach ensures there are convenient spaces available for quick drop‑ins as well as for visitors who need a little more time.

How long will it take to process my request?

As we are currently processing a high volume of parking review requests it may take us up to 12 months to start the review process for new requests. Once we’ve started, we’ll aim to complete the review process within 6 months.

We will look at requests from traders first, and then review all other requests in the order we receive them. We may prioritise changes where:

  • someone has mobility needs and requires easier access
  • parking is regularly more than 90% full, which can create safety issues.

Steps once we have begun assessing your request

We will only begin the parking review process steps detailed below if we determine that 85% of the available parking spaces in the street are occupied for at least 4 hours. This level of use means that most spaces are taken and drivers are regularly struggling to find a spot. If parking occupancy stays below this threshold, we won’t start a review and we’ll let you know the result by email or mail.

Step 1 – Surveys

We will send a survey in the mail to all households and businesses who may be impacted by changes to parking restrictions in your street. You can use the survey to tell us your challenges or ideas about parking in your area.

Step 2 – Review your feedback

We will review all survey feedback and consider how often on-street parking in your area is being used and the different types of parking needs.

If we determine that parking restrictions are not needed on your street at this time, we will let all affected households and businesses know and no further action will be taken.

Step 3 – Seek feedback on the plan

If we determine that a change is needed, we will send all affected households and businesses a letter with a proposed parking plan that explains what changes are proposed. You can give feedback on the parking plan.

Step 4 – Review the plan

We will review feedback on the proposed parking plan and modify the plan if required.

Step 5 – Final plan

We will send all affected households and businesses a copy of the final parking plan and let you know when we are making the changes. Information about parking permits will also be provided.

Step 6 – Making the changes

We will make the changes to signage in your street.
