New playground at DR Atkinson Reserve in Reservoir
Published on 30 June 2026
A new playground at DR Atkinson Reserve in Reservoir is now ready to be enjoyed by local families, with lots of different play options for diverse interests and age groups.
Local park-goer Tilly (8) gave the new playground her tick of approval.
“It’s very good because it has monkey bars…and it also has two slides, one big one and one little one…sometimes mums can even go down the slide!” Tilly said.
“Finch (10) thought its location near a sporting pavilion, sports oval and toilets was handy.”
“And it’s also good because it’s placed near houses – people can run into the park,” he said.
Six-year-old Daisy’s verdict? “My favourite was the spinny thing and the swing.”
The project also delivered additional upgrades including improved seating, a picnic table and a drinking fountain, which were key requests during the community consultation period.
Thanks to all the community members who had their say and helped choose the winning design.
Our 2026–27 Playspace Renewal Program was approved at the 30 June Council Meeting, and we’re excited to get to work on the following projects over the next 12 months:
- Asling Reserve – partial playground renewal ($30,000)
- Bundoora Park Farm Café – playground renewal ($74,000)
- Edwardes Lake Park – slide renewal ($200,000)
- Foch Reserve – partial playground renewal ($25,000)
- Hayes Park – swingset renewal ($25,000)
- Horton Reserve – playspace resurfacing and swingset renewal ($100,000)
We are also upgrading A.G Davis Park in Preston and Henderson Park in Thornbury. Both parks will become more comfortable and welcoming spaces, with upgrades like more trees and plants, shelters with picnic tables and barbecues, and added bins and drinking fountains.
