Waste collections are not impacted by Australian Services Union industrial action at this time, allowing Council services to return to normal. If customers have any missed collections, these should be reported to Customer Service (Phone: 03 8470 8888). Council will keep the community informed if this changes.

At the Special Council Meeting on 10 February 2026, Council resolved to continue flying the Palestinian flag until the Flag Policy is considered at a future Council meeting no later than the end of March 2026.
Council acknowledged that it must balance staff and community safety, its governance obligations, and the diverse views of the community in relation to the flying of flags.
Council undertook community engagement on the draft Flag Policy from 16 January to 5 February 2026.
This draft policy has been developed to guide decisions about which flags are flown on council-managed flagpoles across Darebin. Council will review the feedback received from the community and look to adopt the Flag Policy at a future Council meeting no later than the end of March 2026.
This policy would replace the previous ad-hoc approach, to provide clarity and underpin future decision-making.
The matter of the Palestinian flag will be considered as part of the Flag Policy when it is presented to Council for decision.
