Fires
You don't have to live in the country to be at risk from a grass fire or bushfire. Suburban homes can come under threat, especially when they are close to our parks, reserves and creeks.
It is important to ensure that you are prepared for fires. Being fire ready is a shared responsibility between government, emergency services and the community. In case of fire or emergency, please call 000.
Our fire prevention officers make yearly inspections across all of Darebin's properties from November to March to ensure that they are maintained to a fire safe condition.
Fire prevention resources
- Ensure your property is fire ready - visit the Country Fire Authority (CFA) website to Plan & Prepare for Fires
- What to do and how to prepare yourself near fast moving grass fire
- Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) website for information on Home Fire Safety
- Smoke alarms - All Victorian residential properties must have a working smoke alarm on every level. If you are installing a new smoke alarm be sure it has a 10 year long life battery. If you have a smoke alarm with a 9-volt battery you need replace this every year (suggestion to replace the battery at the beginning of day light savings).
With extreme heat, the fire risks also increase. For up to date information on fire and heat warnings either download the VicEmergency App for iOS or Android or visit the Emergency Victoria website.
