Celebrated each year on 3 December, the International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.
Each year United Nations set the theme and last year it was: ‘Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world’.
In 2021, we co-designed Light Up Darebin! with the You Am I work experience participants. Over the weekend of 3 to 5 December, two Darebin City Council buildings were lit up in light blue, green, orange and navy blue - the colours and the logo of IDPwD in Australia.
The participants also created the Light Up Darebin booklet and its accessible version. This booklet includes participant's art and reflections on the day.
For a paper copy of the booklet contact the Access and Inclusion team.
