Refugee Week
June
Refugee Week is a national annual event that aims to create a culture of welcome for refugees and asylum seekers living among us.
This year, Refugee Week runs from 18—24 June, and the theme for 2023 is Finding Freedom.
Refugee Week celebrations strive to create better understanding between different communities and encourage successful integration, enabling refugees to live in safety, respect and with dignity while appreciating their incredible contribution to Australia.
The week also includes The United Nations World Refugee Day on June 20.
Refugee Week is a unique opportunity for us all to experience and celebrate the rich diversity of refugee communities through theatre, music, dance, film and other events which take place all over Australia and provides an important opportunity for asylum seekers and refugees to be seen, listened to and valued.
Join us for the special forum Finding Freedom through the Decades as part of Refugee Week with a panel of speakers from refugee backgrounds as they share their experiences with Victorian Multicultural Commissioner Dr Judy Tang and respond to the theme of Refugee Week 2023 – ‘Finding Freedom’.
When: Thursday 22 June
Where: Darebin Intercultural Centre, 350 High St Preston
Time: 6pm – 8pm
