Council has endorsed a community-wide annual hard rubbish collection service commencing from 1 July 2027.

The community-wide collection will provide households with one annual collection of up to 2 cubic metres of hard waste, with the first collection expected to occur in November 2027 and annually thereafter.

Council will now work with contractors on detailed planning and timing, and information will be released after this is complete.

The current booked hard waste collection service will continue unchanged until 30 June 2027. There will be no interruption to hard waste services during the transition period.

Council's decision was informed by community feedback, operational performance, environmental outcomes and the findings of the booked hard waste trial. Community feedback demonstrated strong support for Council continuing to provide a hard rubbish collection service.

Council's priority is to provide a fair, accessible and reliable service that meets the needs of the Darebin community.

Council may consider future service enhancements through the annual budget processes, including additional booked collections or a second municipality-wide collection.

No decision has been made on future service enhancements beyond the endorsed annual municipality-wide collection.
