Personal care and body art businesses
All personal care and body art businesses in Darebin must register under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act in order to operate.

The Infection prevention and control guidelines for hair, beauty, tattooing and skin penetration industries assists business owners in the personal care and body art industries to comply with the Health and Wellbeing Regulation 2009.

Registering a personal care and body art business
All personal care and body art businesses must register their health premises with Council.
You will be required to submit a completed application form to register your health business.
Your submitted application will be reviewed by a health officer and you will be issued an invoice for registration. The invoice fee(PDF, 159KB) includes an application fee and a pro-rata registration fee. Refer to the Schedule of Fees(PDF, 159KB) for more information.
Once payment is received, a Health Officer will contact you to organise an inspection. Refer to the final inspection checklist(PDF, 194KB) for detailed information.
You will be issued with a Certificate of Registration when approval of your premises has been granted by a Health Officer.

We recommend you contact the Health Protection Unit before you apply to register your health business. They can give you advice and recommendations that will assist you in making a complete application with Council.
Selling an existing business
When you are looking to sell your business and wish to request an inspection, you the current registered business owner can submit a request for premises inspection form with our Health Protection Unit. An invoice will then be sent and must be paid before an inspection will be completed.
The inspection report will outline any non-compliant items that are identified on the day of inspection. The inspection report will only be provided to the current registered proprietor. After providing the inspection report, it is the responsibility of the vendor and purchaser to negotiate the completion of non-compliant items.
Please be advised that Council will only issue the report in PDF format to the current registered proprietor for distribution to potential purchasers.
The inspection report will be provided within 10 business days of invoice payment.
