Our Songs

Our Songs is our annual Darebin Arts festive program: a series of events that bring the community together to share in the joy of music. Events are held throughout the municipality, often in partnership with local music groups. Our Songs celebrates many different expressions of music, dance, tradition and culture.

Our Songs: Christmas Songs at the Lake

Presented by Darebin City Brass and ARCappella as part of Our Songs, in partnership with Darebin Arts

Everyone is welcome at this celebratory evening of festive melodies performed by two of Darebin’s best-loved community music groups: Darebin City Brass and ARCappella choir.  

Bring a picnic and the whole family, and settle in to enjoy a classic collection of carols and Christmas songs by the lake.

Our Songs: Gamelan DanAnda at Alphington Farmers Market

Presented by Gamelan DanAnda and Alphington Farmers Market as part of Our Songs, in partnership with Darebin Arts

A leisurely Sunday morning at Alphington Farmers Market just got even better! 

Gamelan DanAnda community orchestra are bringing the mesmerising sounds of Balinese traditional music to the market in this special performance. Enjoy the unique beauty of this community-minded, cooperative music with its distinctive overlapping rhythmic patterns.

Our Songs at Bundoora Park Farm

Presented by Darebin Arts

Spend an afternoon at the Farm feeding the animals, chasing giant bubbles and enjoying performances from some of our brightest local up-and-coming musicians.  

This afternoon of family-friendly fun in the gorgeous surroundings of Bundoora Park Farm will feature appearances from folk-pop artist Detsi and multi-instrumentalist Reachell, both of whom are part of Darebin’s Decibels Youth Music program. Bubbleoligist Kalina will be roaming throughout with her magical giant bubble tricks, which are sure to keep the kids entertained!

Our Songs at Northcote Civic Square

Presented by Darebin Arts

Cowboy boots meet Santa hats for a boot-scooting festive community rodeo at Northcote Civic Square!

This fabulous evening of festivity in the heart of Northcote's High Street bustle will feature:

• Local line dancing stars Kitty and Lu of Disco Rodeo, who will get everyone up and dancing for a glorious boot-scooting rodeo
• Karin Locke’s Awkard Portraits: have your friendship group or family portrait taken 80s style. Think awkward poses, gaudy jumpers, oversized glasses and trippy backgrounds! Dress up, pose for your photo, then take home a print or digital copy
• A pop-up from Bec's Tree House Art School, with colourful craft activities for kids
• Noongar artist Emmy Yarram, AKA DJ On Milk, on the decks, spinning a mix of funk, disco, 80s and noughties tunes
• Local legend and Noongar, Kurnai and Gunditjmara comedian, Shiralee Hood, as our fabulous MC

Our Songs: High Street Bells at Northcote Rise

Presented by Northcote Business Association and High Street Bells as part of Our Songs, in partnership with Darebin Arts

High Street Bells will be sharing festive musical joy on Northcote Rise in the bustling lead up to Christmas! 

This close-knit community choir was established in 2010 by local musician Jenny Taylor, especially for people who may not be able to access other choirs due to disability, illness or injury. Members come together weekly to share in the joy of singing and connecting with others: joy they will be sharing with the wider community during this special festive performance.

Our Songs at Keon Park

Presented by Darebin Arts in partnership with Keon Park Children's Hub

Pack a picnic and join us under the stars for a family film screening of animated musical comedy Sing, plus a festive performance from local Latin-Australian band La Descarga. 

We’re celebrating the start of summer and the festive season in style at Keon Park Children’s Hub. This event is suitable for all ages and everyone is welcome: bring your family, friends and a picnic basket!
