What is an EVOLT scan?

An EVOLT scan is a fast, non-invasive body composition test that uses advanced bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) to measure how your body is made up.

A safe, low-level electrical current passes through your body, allowing the system to assess how fat, muscle, and water respond – giving you a detailed breakdown of your body composition.

Your results include:

  • Body fat percentage
  • Skeletal muscle mass
  • Visceral fat (fat around organs)
  • Segmental analysis (arms, legs, torso)
  • Hydration levels
  • Bone mass and protein levels
  • Basal metabolic rate (energy needed at rest)
  • Total energy expenditure
  • Fitness age

You’ll also receive personalised insights and recommendations through the EVOLT Active app.

Why use EVOLT?

  • Track progress over time
  • Set realistic, data-driven goals
  • Identify strengths and imbalances
  • Stay accountable and motivated

The real power of EVOLT is in tracking your own progress over time – helping you see exactly how your training and lifestyle are impacting your body.

How to book a scan

Frequently asked questions

What should I do before my scan to get the best results?

To help improve accuracy, we recommend:

  • avoid eating in the 2–3 hours before your scan
  • stay hydrated, but avoid excessive fluid right before
  • avoid exercise in the hours leading up to your scan
  • avoid caffeine (coffee, tea, supplements) beforehand
  • wear light clothing and remove shoes/socks.

Because EVOLT measures how an electrical current travels through your body, factors such as hydration, food intake, and exercise can influence your results. Following these guidelines helps ensure consistent and reliable data over time.

How long does a scan take?

EVOLT scan appointments are 15 minutes. The scan itself takes under one minute, with a few additional minutes for setup and explanation.

Can I track my results over time?

Yes. Your results are linked to your EVOLT account and can be accessed in the EVOLT Active App.

For best results, try to scan under similar conditions each time (same time of day, hydration, etc.).

Do I need to create an account before arriving?

You can also set it up beforehand by downloading the EVOLT Active App:

How does EVOLT compare to a DEXA scan?

A DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) scan is considered the gold standard for body composition analysis, using low-level X-rays to measure bone density, fat, and lean mass with high precision.

However, DEXA scans:

  • are more expensive
  • often require a referral in Australia
  • are less accessible for regular use,

EVOLT uses BIA technology, so results may differ slightly due to differences in method.

While DEXA is the most accurate, EVOLT is a practical, non-invasive, and cost-effective way to consistently track progress over time.

The most valuable insights come from comparing your own results over time, not comparing to other methods or individuals.

Who cannot use the EVOLT scanner?

EVOLT scans are not suitable for:

  • individuals under 18 years of age
  • pregnant individuals
  • individuals with pacemakers or implanted electronic medical devices.

If unsure, please consult your healthcare provider before booking.

Can trans and non-binary people use the EVOLT scanner?

Yes – everyone is welcome to use the EVOLT scanner.

The system currently only allows a binary gender selection (male or female), and the underlying algorithms are based on normative data from cisgender populations. This means results are calibrated using average differences in body composition (such as muscle mass and bone mass) typically observed across male and female populations.

If you are trans or non-binary, you can select whichever option you feel most comfortable with. We understand this may not reflect your gender identity, and we appreciate your understanding as this is a limitation of the EVOLT system.

We recommend selecting the same option (male or female) each time you scan. This allows for consistent tracking of your results over time.

For the most meaningful insights, focus on comparing your results to your own previous scans rather than population averages.
