On 8 August 2025, Council was advised that the Department of Transport and Planning, under delegation from the Minister for Planning, had refused Council’s application for an interim and permanent heritage overlay for the Furlan Club.
While the Department recognised the importance of the Furlan Club to the Community, the reasons cite uncertainties over the continuation of the Club’s activities on the land and the impact of the 2024 building fire on its heritage significance.
The demolition application for the Furlan Club is now able to move forward, as Council no longer has grounds to withhold approval.
Council recognises the long history of the Furlan Club and the cultural significance it has for many in our community.
