The draft Road Management Plan 2025 (RMP) was adopted at the 27 October Council Meeting, marking the formal start of the program.

Linking into Council’s values, strategies, policies, and broader planning frameworks, the RMP is tied to integrated water management, climate emergency, streetscape design and management, liveability, urban amenity, walkability, and city presentation.

There are many positives for the community that will come from the RMP, including:

Improved safety

  • Faster repair response times (e.g. primary and other footpaths, link roads, K&C) mean hazards are addressed quickly, reducing the risk of accidents and injuries.
  • More frequent inspections of the Primary Principle Pedestrian Network (PPN) help identify issues earlier, enhancing pedestrian safety.

Better service standards

  • Aligning with the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) model where possible to ensure consistency with best practices across Victorian councils.
  • Community members benefit from more reliable and timely maintenance, especially in high-use areas like primary footpaths and link roads.

Efficiency and clarity

  • Removing items like pit cleaning and car parks from the RMP (as they’re either not required or are covered elsewhere) helps streamline the document, making it easier to understand and manage.
  • This also ensures that resources are focused on core responsibilities defined within the RMP.

Cost-effective maintenance

  • Proactive inspections and quicker repairs can reduce long-term costs by preventing small issues from becoming major problems.
  • Aligning kerb & channel repairs with the Asset Renewal Program improves planning and budgeting efficiency.

Enhanced community engagement

  • The updated plan supports clearer communication with the public about service levels and expectations, helping build trust and transparency.

Congratulations to all involved in this amazing project, which will have long lasting benefits for our community.
