On 26 May 2025, Council endorsed the Darebin Economic Framework – our roadmap for building a stronger and more sustainable local economy.

The Framework was shaped by input from hundreds of local businesses and community members through surveys, workshops and conversations across Darebin.

It focuses on four key priorities:

1. Supporting all businesses to succeed

We’ll launch a Darebin Economic Futures Framework to bring local business owners together to share ideas and support. We’ll spotlight local success stories, offer mentoring opportunities, and back small businesses and entrepreneurs – especially those just starting out.

2. Revitalising our main streets, together

We’ll work closely with traders and the community to refresh our local shopping strips. That means creating shared visions for welcoming, vibrant streets where people want to visit, shop and spend time. We’ll also support local skills development and events, especially those led by young people.

3. Creating jobs through health and education

We’ll help local businesses connect with major local employers like hospitals, schools and universities. This includes improving transport links, supporting local supply chains and partnering on big initiatives like the Northern Innovation and Sustainability Precinct.

4. Growing local industries and jobs

We’ll help grow Darebin’s strong manufacturing sector by making the most of local land and attracting new, sustainable businesses. We’ll also back our skilled workforce and encourage industries that bring long-term benefits to our community.

With the Framework now endorsed, we're getting to work – turning ideas into action and building an economy that works for everyone.
