Darebin supports transgender and gender diverse people in sport

At Darebin, we’re a proud leader on transgender, gender diverse and LGBTIQ+ inclusion. We want to reaffirm our support for transgender and gender diverse people in sport and the right of all to participate fully in all aspects of community life. Sport and leisure activities are so important for building communities that are healthy and more connected.

This is why we have initiatives in place such as the Trans and Gender Diverse Swim Nights at Reservoir Leisure Centre. These sessions offer a safe and welcoming place for transgender and gender diverse people to participate in sport and recreation activities. In our community, local sporting clubs such as the Darebin Falcons have led the way on trans inclusion in sport. This is a local, ongoing legacy we are extremely proud of.

In partnership with members of the Darebin LGBTIQ+ community and with guidance from the Sexuality, Sex and Gender Diverse Advisory Committee, Council strongly reiterates that we oppose transphobia and transmisogyny in all their forms, as we oppose discrimination of all kinds. We reaffirm the rights of all, regardless of gender identity or expression to participate in public and community life, and our support for transgender and gender diverse people who participate in sport.
