Celebrate NAIDOC week in Darebin and this year’s theme ‘For our Elders’ to recognise the role Elders continue to play.

Celebrate NAIDOC week - 2 - 9 July

NAIDOC week is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, leaders and Elders who have continually fought for survival, change and equal rights since European invasion.

This year, The NAIDOC Week theme is For our Elders

Join us for a free, family friendly opening event in celebration of NAIDOC Week 2023 at Bundoora Homestead on Saturday 8 July, 2-4pm.

Experience a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country led by a Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Traditional Owner, along with a Dardi Munwurro hosted sausage sizzle, refreshments and the launch of a major new exhibition by Koori Elders, Us Mob.

NAIDOC at the Library

At our special event on Thursday 6 July we will be joined by Wurundjeri Woi wurrung Elder, Uncle Bill Nicholson Jr – bookings essential! The NAIDOC Week book list includes stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Darebin Libraries has created Deadly Reads, a spotlight of the excellent and important work of leading Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors and illustrators.

You can also get involved by joining one of the many NAIDOC Week events in your area.

Don’t miss the official NAIDOC march and festivities on Friday 7 July starting from 10am at the Victorian Aboriginal Health Services on Nicholson St in Fitzroy.
