Applying for business permits
Whether you’re a new or established business, you’ll likely need one or more permits to operate. We have a dedicated team to help guide your business through the application process. We know that there’s a lot to consider when starting or changing a business, so we’ve developed the Better Approvals Program (BAP).
To determine which permits you require to get your business started, please contact the Business Concierge for a quick chat about your plans. They’ll discuss your individual needs and provide a questionnaire in order to compile a complete overview of your business.
The Better Approvals process
- Before applying for permits, contact our Better Approvals team who will help you to compile an overview of your business idea. We will ask you to fill in a business questionnaire to describe your business to understand what permits you will require. We can email you the link, or you can use the link below:
Fill in the BAPs business questionnaire - The business team will arrange for each relevant department to provide you with permit advice. We will email you a summary of preliminary advice about what permits you require and the costs of application. We may also arrange a pre-application meeting if needed, to provide you more detailed information.
- From there, you can use our single business application form to apply for one or multiple permits. This includes Planning, Building, Food, Health and Footpath Trading applications. We will forward this to the relevant departments for processing.
Apply for a business permit - Once you receive all your permits, we’ll help you celebrate by posting your business profile on our Darebin Business Map and offering other council services to help you grow and succeed.
