Darebin City Council is delighted to be awarded a 6 Star Green Star rating for the design of the community’s Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre.

This rating reflects ‘world leadership’ level in sustainable design under the Green Building Council of Australia’s rating system. The rating is the highest rating possible in the Green Building Council of Australia’s sustainability rating system and covers categories including Management, Indoor Environment Quality, Energy, Transport, Water, Materials, Land Use and Ecology, Emissions and Innovation.

Darebin Mayor Councillor Julie Williams said Council had prioritised finding innovative ways to achieve sustainable design for the stunning new facility, which aims to support great health and wellbeing outcomes for the community.

“We are delighted to have achieved 6 Star Green Star for design of the community’s Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre,” Mayor Williams said.

“This rating demonstrates our strong commitment to taking action on the climate emergency, including by showing leadership in creating environmentally responsible spaces.”

The Northcote Aquatic Recreation Centre reached its end-of-life and is being redeveloped so it can meet the needs of Darebin’s rapidly growing and diverse population well into the future.

The redevelopment includes both indoor and outdoor pools, gyms, wellness spaces and an onsite cafe.

The Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre is set to open for the entire Darebin community to enjoy mid-late this year.
