Everyone wants to enjoy a visit to the park without encountering pests.

Unfortunately, a population of non-native rats has infested the Edwardes Lake Park playground area, impacting the ecosystem, wildlife, and visitor experience.

To restore the natural environment and ensure the park remains as pest-free as possible, we are implementing a controlled eradication program to reduce the rat population.

As part of these works, the Griffiths Street playground will be closed from Monday 2 March to Friday 24 April 2026.

During this time, Council will also deliver a complete surface renewal project, giving the site a much-needed uplift.

The program has been carefully designed to be safe for people, wildlife, and pets, with minimal disruption to the main playground and park areas, which will remain open for visitors.
