Join Darebin's Natural Environment team for a nature discovery walk and hands‑on iNaturalist session as part of the City Nature Challenge!

The City Nature Challenge is an international citizen‑science event where communities around the world come together to document nature in their local area.

During this event, we’ll take a gentle walk through Merri Park, and we’ll pause to identify species, take photos, and upload observations to iNaturalist – no experience required!

This session is perfect for anyone interested in nature, wildlife, photography, citizen science, or simply exploring their local environment with others.

In this session, you will:

  • Learn how to use the iNaturalist app to record your nature observations
  • Get tips on how to make the best nature observations
  • Explore the flora and fauna of Merri Park with guidance from Darebin’s Natural Environment team
  • Contribute to the 2026 City Nature Challenge.

What to bring:

  • A smartphone with the iNaturalist app installed (free on iOS and Android)
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Water, hat, sunscreen, and weather‑appropriate clothing

By joining this guided session, you’ll help contribute valuable observations that support biodiversity research and deepen our understanding of local ecosystems.
