We have joined councils across metropolitan Melbourne and the Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary to represent Greater Melbourne in the Great Southern BioBlitz.

In spring nature is buzzing: flowers are blooming, pollinators are on the move, reptiles are basking, and migratory birds are arriving. It’s the perfect time to get outside and explore.

Between 24–27 October, we’re inviting everyone in Darebin to take part in the Great Southern Bioblitz: a four-day citizen science event where communities across the Southern Hemisphere come together to record as many wild plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms as possible.

How to Get Involved

  1. Download the free iNaturalist App
  2.  Join the Nangak Tamboree and Darebin project on iNaturalist
  3. Get outdoors and make observations between 24–27 October
  4. Upload your observations by 10 November to be included in the final tally
  5. Help identify other people’s observations to improve data quality
  6. Track Greater Melbourne's progress against other cities
  7. Stay tuned for the results
